In our own backyard

Our own backyard is where we can make real change happen in the world. This series takes botanicals that live and die in our own back yard and embeds them in clay, then fires them combined with the oxides of the earth. As these works are fired, the clay surfaces degrade and break, taking on some of the chemical flavour of the organic matter. These pieces speak to us of how our lives intersect, embed, degrade and ulitmately show something beautiful as they merge with the rest of the living systems around us.

This section also celebrates the fungi that surrounds us, and its underpinning mycellium that stitches our world together.
